Football fans around the world are enjoying unprecedented coverage of the World Cup from the same goal these days thanks to the new Net-Cam cameras from Camera Corps.

Developed specifically for this event, Net-Cam is a high-definition miniature camera with high-quality ultra-wide-angle optics, specifically designed to capture high-quality images of the entire goal from the back corner of the net.

Tim Reynolds, sales and project coordinator at Camera Corps, noted that “two Net-Cams have been installed in each of the ten championship venues, capturing the entire goal with a wide angle without any type of aberration. In addition to offering viewers high-quality images of the plays in front of the goal, Net-Cams help resolve possible doubts at the goal line. Each Net-Cam incorporates an ultra-compact remote control with pan-tilt-roll that allows the viewing angle to be adapted in the event of a direct impact of the ball. The head is controlled by an operator through Camera Corps’ own CCU panel, eliminating the need for on-site camera adjustments.”

The camera incorporates a 1/3-inch CMOS sensor that offers 2.1 megapixel progressive scan at 1080 and 720p at 50 or 60 Hz. Operating at 12 V DC, the camera can operate at illumination levels of up to 8 lux at through a temperature range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius and up to 90 percent humidity. It also has automatic and manual white balance control, electronic shutter, HD-SDI video output and on-screen configuration menu. The Net-Cam's optics are capable of collecting a 125-degree field of horizontal vision.

Wide deployment

In addition to the Net-Cams, Camera Corps has provided ten Com-Cam systems, two robotic cameras, one tactical robotic, and one camera that covers the entirety of each of the ten stadiums. To control the entire operation, the company has sent a team of 29 technicians and engineers to South Africa, in addition to the support team.

Net-Cam is the latest addition to Camera Corps' wide range of remote and specialty camera solutions aimed at televising events as varied as bobsleigh, baseball, archery, skiing and swimming. Other cameras in the range are designed to be mounted directly on athletes' clothing or helmet.
