Sony's 4K technology reaches Spanish cinemas

Cinemes Albéniz in Girona and Arinco in Palamós are the first theaters in Spain to have Sony's CineAlta 4K digital cinema projection system.

Sony's 4K digital cinema projection technology is now available in two Spanish cinemas: Cinemes Albéniz in Girona and Arinco in Palamós. These two theaters thus become the first in our country to migrate to Sony's high-resolution 4K digital projection system (4,096×2,160 pixels), being also prepared for 3D projection with the Real D system. The first film projected with This technology has been the recently released “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.

Vircas Europe, an official Sony D-Cinema distributor, has been responsible for installing the company's SRX-R220 digital cinema projectors. This system, with 21,000 ANSI lumens and SXRD technology, can display 4K content on screens up to 20 meters wide, offering viewers the best visual experience available today in cinema projection.

Designed to DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) specifications, the SRX-R220 projector is housed in a new chassis that meets FIPS 140-2 security requirements. Along with the projector, the Sony LMT-200 Media Block has been supplied, which contains all the necessary elements for the ingestion, decoding and reproduction of digital content and is included in the same chassis, as well as the LSM room management and control system. -100/SMSServer.

In this way, Cinemes Albéniz in Girona and Arinco in Palamós join the increasing number of theaters in Europe and the United States that have already made the move to Sony 4K digital cinema. This is the case of Regal Entertainment Group and AMC Entertainment, two of the most important chains in the US, which have reached an agreement to install Sony systems in all their rooms, more than 11,000 in total, which represents the largest deployment of 4K technology to date.

Regarding the European market, among the latest agreements reached are the one recently signed with the Apollo cinema chain in the United Kingdom, which will install 83 Sony CineAlta 4K digital cinema projectors, and that with the German chain CinemaxX, which will also install 56 these 4K projectors from the company. Thus, these chains become the pioneering and most innovative circuits in their countries in completely digital installation and with 4K technology from Sony.

Sony's innovative 4K projection systems offer the highest levels of resolution, contrast and image quality. With 8.8 million pixels, Sony's 4K technology provides image resolution four times greater than 2K systems and just over four times greater than High Definition.
