Mediacorp remotely broadcasts the 32nd SEA Games with TVU Networks
Mediacorp has once again chosen various TVU Networks solutions to broadcast the 2023 Southeast Asian Games across its suite of TV channels, radio stations and digital platforms.
The 32nd Southeast Asian Games kicked off in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, on May 5, 2023, which attracted more than 7,000 athletes from 11 countries within the region to compete for 5,151 medals in 37 competitive events. Mediacorp’s coverage of the 32nd SEA Games follows its recent multi-platform offerings of major sporting events as part of its commitment to rally audiences behind Team Singapore.
Based on the network’s experience in prior SEA Games, it turned to TVU Remote Commentator for the remote production required in their workflow. In addition to the remote commentary setup similar to the prior SEA Games, Mediacorp expanded TVU’s role to include the collection and feedback of live scenes – using the TVU One cellular mobile transmitter and TVU Anywhere live streaming app.
During the 2023 SEA Games, Mediacorp successfully conducted remote live broadcast production and commentary production of football games, aquatic sports, track and field, martial arts and many other events through this combination of TVU solutions. TVU One and TVU Anywhere were deployed at multiple event sites to capture real-time images and fed back to the IBC (International Broadcast Center) for live broadcast and commentary production.
State-of-the-art technology
Commentators in Ireland and Singapore watched the live event video through TVU Remote Commentator, simultaneously conducting remote single-person commentary or multi-commentator, interactive commentary. The TVU Anywhere streaming app and TVU One mobile transmitter aggregated 3G/4G/LTE /5G connections and available Wi-Fi for high-definition wireless video transmission using TVU’s patented IS+ technology, as well as FEC forward error correction, and HEVC intelligent VBR encoding to achieve stable feedback of audio and video signals for the live broadcast.
Using TVU’s unique TimeLock technology, TVU Remote Commentator ensured the precise synchronization of audio and video signals from different locations, enabling accurate live commentary and interaction between on-air talent. In addition, the TVU cloud-based tuning microservice made audio operations simpler for Mediacorp.
TVU’s flexible microservices provided support for multiple languages, commentators, and viewer distribution platforms, such as broadcast TV, streaming, and social media platforms. The TVU remote production ecosystem provided Mediacorp with a precise and cost-efficient workflow for live video that enabled Mediacorp to enhance its international commentary talent pool.
