Blackmagic unveils new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2
The brand new Blackmagic-Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K upgrades color science and battery life with its new G2 model.
The new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 aims to deliver the same features of high-end digital cinema cameras in a compact, portable size. Made from a polycarbonate and carbon fibre composite, the camera features a multi-functional grip with all the controls needed to record and adjust ISO, white balance and shutter angle. The sensor structure reduces thermal noise for sharper shadows and higher sensitivity, while the 5-inch screen allows the “ideal focus” to be achieved at 4K or 6K resolution.
The Blackmagic latest solution features a 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor and an EF mount that facilitates the use of larger photographic lenses to capture cinema-quality images with a shallower depth of field. This makes it possible to generate creatively blurred backgrounds and stunning bokeh effects.
The advanced operating system from Blackmagic facilitates all shooting processes. To configure settings, add metadata or view recording status, simply tap or swipe on the touch screen. This operating system is ready to provide access to advanced camera features such as on-screen focus and exposure tools, 3D conversion tables, wide dynamic range, metadata, timecode and Blackmagic RAW. Once the shoot is complete, those interested can post-produce their piece with the included DaVinci Resolve Studio software.
Evolution of the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 model features the latest Blackmagic color science developments while retaining some of the most celebrated features of the previous model.
Whether shooting in daylight or low-light conditions, the 13-stop dynamic range Und maximum dual native ISO of 25,600 allow for very low-noise images to be captured in a variety of lighting conditions. Similarly, the 6K G2 model features a larger Super 35 sensor for greater depth of field and anamorphic lenses. All models offer the ability to shoot at up to 60 f/s or 120 f/s by reducing the usable sensor area.
Der Taschenkinokamera 6K models also allow an optional viewfinder (Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF) to be attached to facilitate both handheld and location shooting. However, if the built-in screen is preferred, users will find a 1280 x 960 OLED display with an integrated proximity sensor and a four-element glass dioptre for greater precision with wide focus settings from -4 to +4, as well as a digital adjustment chart that provides the ability to achieve the best viewfinder focus. Furthermore, information such as framing guides can be viewed through this display.
Improved battery life
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K now uses larger capacity NP-F570 batteries, so you can shoot for longer periods of time without needing to recharge or replace the battery. They also feature a DC power socket, so there’s no need to worry about power outages during a shoot. The included transformer allows you to power the unit and charge the battery at the same time, while the USB-C port provides an alternative way of doing so via any laptop PC or mobile phone charger. The Blackmagic Pocket Battery Grip makes it easy to use additional batteries in tandem for all-day use. Finally, on the audio side, the system features professional mini XLR ports with a phantom option.
Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, sums up the key features of his company’s latest camera: “Since the release of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, customers have been asking for some of the features to be added to the 6K model,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We’ve been able to achieve even greater manufacturing efficiencies which means that we are now able to release this new 6K model which adds an adjustable LCD touchscreen, larger longer battery life, support for the OLED viewfinder and improved on screen menus. We are excited to be offering these additional features that have been so popular with customers!”
