Audinate - Dante - Peacekeeper Elite

Audinate‘s Dante digital audio standard proves to be a critical piece within the remote broadcast workflow implemented by VSPN for the Peacekeeper Elite League.

Der Peackeeeper Elite League is the highest level eSports competition of the Peacekeeper Elite video game, a localized PUBG Mobile title for the Chinese market. In order to reduce the production costs of this competition, VSPN, co-organizer of the competition, decided to opt for remote production.

For audio, VSPN opted for Audinate’s Dante system. Thanks to the protocol, the event’s commentators and production staff were able to work largely remotely in Xi’an (some 750 kilometers away from where the competition was being held in Chonqing) with “minimal” audio latency. This setup enabled “impressive” cost savings by reducing the number of people on site, minimizing traditional AV cable runs, and simplifying workflow under an “easy-to-manage” Dante network.

Dante Domain Manager

In Chongqing, the team relied on an SSL System T S300-32 platform with a redundant T25 DSP engine for outside broadcast. An SSL Live L550 audio mixing console with several Dante interface boxes was also used to capture the team’s voice chat. The Dante network located at the competition venue in Chongqing was connected to the studio in Xi’an via a dedicated network line, promoting low latency. The workflow also benefited from the GPS Führer LT4610 GPS master clock generator, which allowed the two locations to receive GPS satellite signals via an antenna and convert the signals into PTP, BB and other clock synchronization signals.

In parallel, the team decided to employ Dante Domain Manager, a network management software that enables user authentication, role-based security and auditing capabilities for Dante networks. In this regard, Wangwei Xie, Technical Manager of VSPN, commented, “To realize the Dante remote production, we needed to solve signal transmission across subnets, network delay, and PTP clock synchronization. To solve most of this we added Dante Domain Manager to the system, which allowed us to group and isolate devices across subnets and plan device group attributes.”

“The result was that the system was stable, and the live event was a complete success. We used Dante to realize the two-way real-time transmission of nearly 20 uncompressed audio streams through the dedicated network line. After three days of live broadcast and testing, the entire audio system had no failure. It perfectly achieved our expected results,” concludes Wangwei.
