Adobe acquires collaborative video cloud platform Frame.io
The cloud collaboration capabilities of Premiere and After Effects will multiply following Adobe‘s acquisition of French company Frame.io.
Frame.io is a cloud video collaboration platform that seeks to remove “inefficiencies” from video workflows by enabling real-time footage upload, access and online collaboration for stakeholders in a “secure and elegant” experience.
Adobe’s acquisition of Frame.io brings collaboration services to the video side of Adobe Creative Cloud. Tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud Libraries, Cloud Documents, Design Systems in Adobe XD, Adobe Stock Und Adobe Fonts will co-exist with Frame.io, making it easier for teams to collaborate in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
Frame.io co-founder and CEO Emery Wells and co-founder John Traver will join Adobe. Wells will continue to lead the Frame.io team, reporting to Scott Belsky. The transaction, valued at $1.275 billion, subject to customary purchase price adjustments, is expected to close during Adobe’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions. Until the transaction closes, each company will continue to operate independently.
Extended collaboration
Frame.io customers and partners will benefit from Adobe plug-ins, but will also continue to be able to rely on third-party applications. Thus, while still integrated with Adobe, Frame.io will be able to continue to serve its broad customer base, which includes players such as Vice, Netflix, Ogilvy Und Buzzfeed.
Scott Belsky, chief product officer and executive vice president of Creative Cloud, says that with this acquisition, Adobe “welcomes an incredible customer-oriented team and adding Frame.io’s cloud-native workflow capabilities to make the creative process more collaborative, productive, and efficient to further unleash creativity for all.”
Andererseits, Emery Wells, CEO of Frame.io, says, “Frame.io and Adobe share a vision for the future of video creation and collaboration that brings together Adobe’s strength in video creation and production and Frame.io’s cloud-native platform.” “We’re excited to join Adobe to continue to drive video innovation for the world’s leading media and entertainment companies, agencies, and brands,” the executive concludes.
