Lawo solutions, including two mc²56 MkIII production consoles, a central A__UHD platform, A__line audio-over-IP nodes and the IP Home management platform, structure the new headquarets of WOW TV.
WOW TV, a subsidiary of the Korea Economic Daily business newspaper, moved into new production studios a few weeks ago, a fully 12G-based UHD studios. Jin Won Lee, technical director of the South Korean broadcaster, shares some of the key features of the installation: “WOW TV broadcasts live for more than 16 hours a day, providing various economic, stock and business information. Because of this, the reliability and redundancy of all systems weighed heavily in our decision”.
Control rooms A and B on floors 11 and 12 of the building are each equipped with 32-fader mc²56 MkIII audio production consoles, which have native support for SMPTE 2110, AES67/RAVENNA and MADI audio streams. In addition to multi-user operation, autoMix, upmix, downmix, these consoles include audio-follows-video functionality, integrated 3D/immersive mixing tools and parallel compression. Similarly, along with the processing functions provided by the console’s own processing engine, the integration of Waves SuperRack SoundGrid gives operators access to Waves’ extensive selection of real-time signal processing plug-ins, without the need for additional displays or control devices.
Key to this installation was the Lawo IP Easy functionality. Based on the Home management platform for IP broadcast infrastructures, it makes IP configuration “as easy as analogue” with features such as automatic detection and quarantine routines. The HOME و MCX servers are housed in the equipment room on floor 11. Won Lee opted for the Lawo solutions after a “comparative review with products from various manufacturers”, which resulted in “high scores” for the German company.
